A Note From Kate Hudson: The Benefits of Mindfulness and Meditation

Zen is a school of Mahayana Buddhism, but it is more commonly referenced as a way of being or a state of mind.  It’s truly a philosophy that can be applied to anything, and regardless of what your personal Zen is, to find it requires a level of mindfulness that can be challenging but extremely rewarding.

As a society today, we are very overstimulated and constantly bombarded by technology, social media, television and the workplace.  In stark contrast, the whole point of Zen meditation is pretty simple, and the emptiness is what’s most rewarding and allows you to be undistracted.  When you begin to quiet your mind, you in turn can simplify your life, which is one of the most beautiful things.

Zen meditation also serves as a gateway to larger goals. Being mindful and really taking time to connect with one’s self requires an element of self-love.  In order to be the best version of you, one needs to self-nurturing and self-accepting. When you realize this, you have started the steps to achieve attainable goals in your life, whether they are to lose weight or find a new job.  Quieting the mind requires focus and stillness that are helpful tools in gaining greater self-awareness, higher levels of happiness and empathy, and for reducing stress and anxiety.

I find that when I meditate consistently, my mind and body are at their best. These are some of my favorite meditation tools:
